Check Service History

No charge unless we find records

How do I check the service history of a car?

Enter the car's UK registration above. We query the manufacturer's central dealer system (the same one main dealers use) and return every digital service entry on file — date, mileage, dealership, work performed — plus full DVSA MOT history. £9.99 per report; no charge if nothing is found.

How to check service history online

Checking a car's service history used to mean phoning every franchised dealer the car may have visited. Today, manufacturer dealer networks share electronic service records through central databases that we query directly.

All you need is the vehicle's UK registration number. We match the registration to the vehicle and pull every digital service entry on file. Reports usually arrive within minutes.

Why check service history before you buy

  • Verify the seller's claims against official records
  • Spot service gaps that may indicate neglect or hidden issues
  • Confirm whether work was done at a main dealer or independent
  • Use any missing history as leverage when negotiating price
  • Avoid vehicles with mileage discrepancies between services

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I check the service history of a car?

Enter the UK registration number into the lookup box above. We query official manufacturer dealership databases and DVSA MOT records. If service history is found we deliver a full PDF report; if not, your card is not charged.

How much does it cost to check service history?

A full service history report costs £9.99 — that includes manufacturer service entries plus full DVSA MOT history. Trade users can sign up for dealer pricing: £4.99 pay-as-you-go or monthly plans as low as £2.81 per check.

What information will I see in the report?

Service date, mileage at service, the dealership that performed the service, and a summary of the work carried out. We combine this with the full DVSA MOT history for a complete maintenance picture.

Which manufacturers are supported?

Full dealership records for BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Ford, Toyota, Volkswagen, Porsche, Land Rover and many more major brands. Other brands return workshop remarks or limited data — full per-brand coverage on the manufacturers page.

What if no records are found?

Your card is not charged — no questions asked. Not all vehicles have electronically recorded service history, especially older models pre-2012.

How long does the service history check take?

Most reports arrive within 1–2 minutes of payment. We submit the lookup to the manufacturer dealer system as soon as the card is authorised. If the dealer system is slow we hold the order and email you the report when it lands — typically the same hour.

Will the report show services done at independent garages?

No. The manufacturer dealer system only holds records for visits to franchised dealerships. Independent garage services don't appear in the manufacturer database — that's the same gap any main dealer would see if you asked them directly. For independents, look for paper invoices or receipts from the seller.

Can I check service history without a registration?

If you have the 17-character VIN you can run the lookup at /check-service-history-by-vin instead. The VIN route is helpful for imports, vehicles awaiting registration, or auction stock. Otherwise the UK registration (VRM) is the easiest way to identify the vehicle.

What if the car is too old for digital records?

Manufacturer digital service records typically start around 2012. Earlier vehicles may have partial or no electronic records — the warning that appears at checkout flags pre-2012 vehicles. If we can't find any records your card isn't charged.

Is this the same as an HPI check?

No — an HPI check covers stolen markers, write-off categories, outstanding finance, and mileage anomalies. A service history check covers manufacturer dealer service records and DVSA MOT history. Used-car buyers usually want both: the HPI confirms the car is legitimately for sale; the service history confirms it's been maintained.
